American Mutoscope Company was established from the K.M.C.D. Syndicate, a group of two ex-Edison employees, another engineer and a financial backer, to create a camera and presentation system to rival the Edison Kinetoscope.
American Mutoscope Company became the American Mutoscope & Biograph Company in 1902 (Website-AFI states 1899) to reflect the company’s expansion into films produced for projection.
