In desperation Harry determines to steal, and is fatally wounded by a watchman. Molly, dying of exhaustion, leaves their baby alone in the world, but her friend Mabel, Dearborn’s trusted employee, adopts her Then one day Dearborn learns that he has a niece, and is captivated by her. He urges his prior claim to the child, but little Edith wants “Mama Mabel” to go wherever she goes.
