At the time the Grand Opera House was built, Pittsburg was known as Black Diamond, California. It is unknown for certain whether David Solari and Sylvester Enea or a group of Italian businessmen leased the Grand Opera House in 1908 for the purpose of exhibiting motion pictures, renaming the venue the Princess Theatre.
